Beware the dead zone! I am in a world of pain right now, and hopefully the info in this post will help you avoid similar butt hurt. I am talking about Golos in this article, however everything mentioned is relevant to Steemit.com.
For some of you newbies, you may not have heard about golos.io. Golos is basically the Russian Steemit; why is there a Russian version of Steemit? Well apparently they are a very rarefied social media market, and they tend to stick with Russian sites.
Apparently Russia and a lot of SE Asia, have sites that dwarf Facebook when it comes to sign ups in those countries.
A Russian Bonus
Anyway, why am I so worried about Golos?
Well I was one of the early, early adopters on Steemit, getting here just a couple of months after its inception. When Golos was proposed and then later built, everyone who had a Steemit account before a particular date, was given a mirror golos account.
That meant that I had an equivalent amount of Golos as I did Steem, but of course Golos was, and is, worth a lot less than Steem.
I had felt that I was going to perhaps post to Golos now and again, with the help of a translation program, but as it turns out, I simply can't see the benefit in doing so, and the extra time debt is one that I just don't need.
So I set the power down in motion . . .
The Dead Zone!!!!
Arrrggg!!! Look away now if you're of a squeamish disposition. Seeing as I've never powered my Steemit account down to zero, I did not realise that by doing so, you are effectively disabling your account from all transactions.
No voting.
No posting.
No trading,
and worst of all;
NO TRANSFERS!
Delegation, Delegation, That's What You Need!
So just power up right? I can't! You need vested shares, of which I have none.
The only way out of this I can see, is if I can delegate some SP from my Steemit account to my Golos account, which seems doubtful.
Which leaves only one option, and that is to somehow get a delegation from a Golos account. Which thinking about it now, I'm wondering if I'll even be able to do that, seeing as no SP or GP, or whatever they call it, means no activity.
Turning Mistakes Into Lessons
Mistakes are only that, if you ignore them and refuse to learn from them. I've learned not to set something off like a Power Down, without monitoring it.
I've also learned to never let my Steemit, or any associated accounts, to ever drop to zero!
I hope this has been a learning experience for you too, for now I'll just hope that somebody with a Golos account can delegate me 10 Steem (equivalent) just so I can get my funds out of there.
I have roughly $410 US worth of crypto sitting in there . . .
Hook me up on chat, discord, or in the comment section if you can help, and remember; even if you have liquid funds in your account, NEVER LET YOUR ACCOUNT DROP TO ZERO SP!!
Peace
