One of the benefits of being financially idependant is the ability to go travelling on a whim. For the past 10 days I have been in Montreal Canada. The trip was business related but I had plenty of time to enjoy the sights, activities and food.
Old Port
The Old Port of Montreal makes a great day trip on weekdays or weekends. There is food trucks and beer gardens, a seawall, paddle boats and even a zipline course.
Saint Catherine Street
This is considered to be the primary artery of Downtown Montreal. You will have plenty of choices for bars, restaurants and shopping. There are also many events held on this street during the summer months. This is where I suggest you spend most of your time if you ever find yourself in Montreal.
Saint Laurent Boulevard
This is the next liveliest street to visit in Montreal. You will usually find a younger crowd here as the street is mostly restaurants, bars and clubs. Monday through Wednesday the street is pretty docile but from Thursday to Sunday it truly comes to life.
Favorite Bar - Le St Bock
This place is for the craft beer enthusiasts. The drinks are a little pricey but the beer selection is the best in Montreal. Here is the flight they served me. I had the Gose, Hefeweizen, Rousse, Saison and Milk Stout and all of them were delicious.
I even came back later in the week for a pint and a fancy poutine.
Favorite Fancy Restaurant - Dominion Square Tavern
This night I decided to go a little fancier and it was worth it. I had the braised beef shoulder paired with a Belle Gueule Red.
Great Pizza - Il Focolaio
As a top pick on TripAdvisor and close to my hotel I had to come here at least once and I'm glad I did
Overall thoughts
Montreal is a beautiful city and I will be returning. As it's a town with many Universities and Colleges the city is very young and lively. There is plenty to see and do and it's rated as a top destination for food and drink.
If you plan a trip make sure you plan accordingly. The summer is beautiful but the city also experiences 6-8 months of winter.. so bring a jacket.
Happy travels.
