I lament the fact that I live in a place where we do not have many choices for vegetables so when someone says "Arugula" or "Brussels sprouts" I am just imagining how would they taste. But I do think that I will die not knowing how the taste of truffles. They say that it was like oniony with a hint of dirt or something like that. In that case i would love to have some but it is just a hopeless endeavor to wish to eat all the vegetables out there in the world.
Some places are just blessed with wide selections of vegetables and even though there is a province here that produces a lot of vegetables still we do not have much of a choice but to cook the same dishes for vegetables because the ingredients ar just the same and limited.
So what vegetables I am talking about? The number one was the squash, then followed by the string beans, eggplant, okra, sweet potato greens, carrots, potatoes, cabbage, patchoi (Chinese Cabbage), and river cabbage. And a few more but that is just about it.
There is just two main vegetable dishes that this house cooks and the other one is only once n a blue moon my mother cooks because it needs cauliflower and broccoli which are both an expensive vegetables especially when there is a typhoon.
My mother just cooks one vegetable dish and it only gets interesting when she puts fermented shrimp sauce in it or pork or shrimps or even blue crabs while it only consist of squash, string beans, okra, and eggplants plus some river cabbage if they so choose to put some. But my father when he cooks it is a vegetable dish indeed, only some seasoning pack will do the trick for him so the vegetable really looks boring and uninteresting to eat for me.
