This was supposedly shared in the Chinese social media some time ago. A very heartfelt advice from a mother to her child. Good to digest these thoughts and I offer some reflections as a parent and as a child.
You were born ordinary, and your parents are also ordinary people. Although I love you, I cannot directly give you success, so most of your happiness will need to be earned by yourself.
Indeed, no one can grant us success.Life is not always smooth sailing. If you don't want to suffer for your entire life, you must be willing to suffer for a period of time. People who cannot endure hardship will never succeed.
Expect pain.Learn to rely on yourself in everything. No matter what happens, others can only help you temporarily, but they cannot help you forever. Remember, mountains can collapse if you lean on them, and people can leave if you depend on them. In this world, you are your own most reliable support.
The highest goal is to be self-reliant.
4 Your parents do not owe you anything. We are responsible for providing food and clothing, while you are responsible for being a good person. Don't just take without giving; learn to be independent and self-reliant. Learn to distinguish between right and wrong.
Being a good person is hard work, but it's our work.
If you endure a bit more hardship now, do more work, and learn more things, you won't suffer as much in the future. If you're too comfortable now, you'll be uncomfortable later.
The ethos of hard work is very much in the Chinese.Be a kind person. No matter how others treat you, just make sure you can live with a clear conscience.
Let's hold ourselves to a higher standard.
