Ficus are a plant Genus that are familiar in many warm climate Countries and are well known as a large tree. They are often an important species in the Rainforests and provide habitat and food for many animals and insects as well as humans. Australia has many species of Ficus. Two of these that are well known in the Sydney area are the Ficus macrocarpa ( the Moreton Bay Fig or Australian Banyan ) and the Ficus rubiginosa ( the Port Jackson Fig ) are large spreading trees with huge canopies and often large surface ( buttress ) roots and multiple trunks.
In the first photo, a Ficus tree's roots are seen spreading down over a vertical rock wall, and in the second, a Ficus tree with multiple trunks resembles a Drunken Orgy, very appropriate for New Years Day, don't you think ? Happy New Year !!
