Good evening, everyone. Tonight's Daily Nature Fix is going to be a couple of photos taken on the island of Sao Miguel, in the Portuguese archipelago known as the Azores. All throughout the island, there are tons of scenic overlooks, known locally as "miradoras", if I'm remembering correctly. These photos were taken at the highest points (literally) on that trip.
^^^This one was taken above the town of Sete Cidades. The Azores were created by undersea volcanoes, like Alaska. Basically, this place was like the Atlantic/Poor man's version of Hawaii, now that I think about it. Anyway, in this photo you can see a volcanic crater (actually several of them) which helped breathe life into the island.
^^^A wider panoramic shot of the same area.
^^^This is looking over the village of Furnas. The entire town is located at the bottom center of the Furnas volcano's caldera. What a comforting thought, huh? Off the right side of the photo, you can can see some steam rising from a geothermal area right in the center of town. Several hot springs and steam vents are in the area.
^^^The last one was taken at.... well.... Well, I don't remember where this was taken. I THINK it's over looking the town of Povoacao in the southern part of the island. Check out those crazy evergreens that look like Bob Ross painted them!
