A new AI method of cancer detection has made tremendous progress. Cancer is detected 86% of the time by the AI. The specificity is 79 and the sensitivity is 94. This success was achieved by an AI assisted detection system to help doctors detect colon cancer. Colon cancer is the second most deadly cancer behind lung cancer but due to the practice of the routine colonoscopy the death rate has gone down in older demographics. Typically people over 40 but sometimes over 50 begin to get a colonoscopy because cancer risk increases generally with age.
During a colonoscopy the doctor will remove polyps. Some of these polyps will be benign and some will be cancerous. The doctor will typically analyze these polyps to detect the cancer. The machine intelligence in this case was used to enhance the ability of doctors to detect cancerous polyps.
