So, yesterday I had a few German friends over for dinner. I made them a classic Swedish Layered Sandwich Cake (Swedish: Smörgåstårta). This is a true beast and it sounds weird, but tastes delicious.

So, what's in it? Well, the base is four layers of white bread, mayo and creme fraiche. Then with three layers of filling, the first one is shrimps and cheese, the second one liver paste with pickled cucumber and the third one is ham, cheese and eggs. Toppings includes all of the above together with smoked salmon, grapes, dill, cucumber, lemon and tomatoes.
It's a true calorie bomb and we don't eat it often. In Sweden it's typical for confirmation, baptism and funerals. Also sometimes after business or assocation meetings.
The cake above is approximately 18 servings. We were five adults and two kids and we almost managed half of it. But hey, who says you can't eat it two days in a row?
