The Himba, the most peculiar African tribe
On more than one occasion I have commented in this blog that if there is something that catches the attention of all the trips that I do is the people. I love to look at the differences that exist between people of both nationalities. Even more so when, try in addition to those differences, their culture and way of life have nothing to do with ours.
Every morning the Himba woman performs a series of rituals for her most curious toilet. One of the women of the tribe taught us what they were about. Inside their huts they keep numerous jars of mud with different ointments. In one of them, the largest, is where they have the mixture of cow's milk and the resultant powder of crushing a reddish stones. With this is what every morning the body is smeared. It not only gives them the typical reddish color of Himba hides, but also protects them from the sun and mosquitoes.
