La gatica es una obra del maestro Lauro que suele estudiarse en el primer año de guitarra en las escuelas y conservatorios del país, yo particularmente la estudie de manera autodidacta en mis comienzos con el instrumento cuando apenas estaba en mis inicios y logré dominarla a pesar de que no tenía profesor. Les recomiendo a todos mis alumnos de guitarra que estudien lentamente cada obra, ya que esa es la única manera de lograr tener en los dedos cada movimiento de las piezas de guitarra clásica.
The gatica is a work by maestro Lauro that is usually studied in the first year of guitar in schools and conservatories in the country. I particularly studied it in a self-taught way in my beginnings with the instrument when I was just beginning and managed to master it despite that he had no teacher. Antonio Lauro (1917-1986) fue un compositor nacionalista venezolano cuya obra, especialmente la escrita para su instrumento dilecto, la guitarra, trascendió las fronteras de su país y se incorporó como referencia obligatoria en el repertorio de los intérpretes de ésta en el mundo. Su obra fue representada en las prestigiosas manos del gran guitarrista venezolano Alirio Díaz, éste último, fue en su momento asistente de uno de los mejores exponentes de la guitarra mundial como fue el maestro Andrés Segovia.
Antonio Lauro (1917-1986) was a Venezuelan nationalist composer whose work, especially the one written for his favorite instrument, the guitar, transcended the borders of his country and was incorporated as an obligatory reference in the repertoire of its interpreters in the world. His work was represented in the prestigious hands of the great Venezuelan guitarist Alirio Díaz, the latter, at the time, was assistant to one of the best exponents of the world guitar as was the teacher Andrés Segovia.
