THE MESSAGE
This poetry personifies fear. The narrator is having a self reflection with the entity of fearHere fear is a living feeling within him. Whenever there is a conflict within someone it usually results to the person answering rhetorical questions which the narrator did.
He understands that fear is a part of him which makes him what he is. However, he can't give into fear and candy ass. He understands that fear can be good and can be bad as well. Scripturally in the book of life (the bible) says
that the fear of the lord is the beginning of wisdom.
This is proverbial saying of when you fear God means that you understand what He is capable of doing and you respect Him. It doesn't mean that you should be afraid.
Take for instance if you see a bear in the woods or in the jungle or in the amazons, if you do not have the element of fear in you. The is no way you will know that the bear is capable of killing or hurting you . One would just stand there and see the raging bear charge towards you but when you have that element of fear in you. You will tap into that energy, you will understand that you have to apply some sort of wisdom approach the situation.
Do you run away? to live to fight another day.
Do you stay? Stand your ground and fight for your survival.
When you stand your ground and face it head on knowing what to do to avoid his attacks then you become become brave. Therefore channeling the fear into bravery so the narrator understands that he cannot allow fear to consume him.
He would not give fear a chance to bring him down. When someone is consumed with fear it can mess with thoughts of reasoning thereby putting one in a state of mental disorder such as paranoia, cowardliness or shy.
Fear can affect the progress or progression in life of someone from taking risk or taking a chance in life which can blind someone of what lies ahead and taking away the truth of a possible positive future. The narrator understands that one of the keys to surviving as a human being is to harness the energy of fear. Tapping into it this raw energy is very delicate because fear is like fire ... it's key to our human existence but if not properly handled it would burn you. It is truly more than a feeling.
Sometimes we care so much for loved our ones that we do not want them to get hurt which of course is normal. We don't want to lose them even though it is one day inevitable. We are not afraid of the inevitable but it is the fear of not to being capable of providing for them when we are gone that drives us to work harder.
Finally the narrator understands that channeling it properly can be a source of motivation to push yourself beyond your scope daring to achieve the impossible
POETRY ANALYSIS
Do you kick her out
Do you let her stay
Do you tame her
or let her loose
The poetry is more like a note to self. The narrator is conscious of his feelings. As the first 4 lines which are rhetorical questions connotes. The narrator is torn to answering some these questions which he is not compelled to as he ponders on it.
She can consume you
like propane waiting for a spark
Here fear is like a fox creeping up to you at a slight chance when you lose confidence it will take a hold of you. The narrator relates fear to fire that needs a catalyst.
Manipulate your settings to paranoia
The human mind can be configured in several ways. When you study a program you will be fined tuned to that subject. Fear can also do the same to an individual. There are many and several terms of various kinds of fear. This is because fear has been able to work its way in such a persons settings thereby corrupting his senses.
Make you cower
As a result, you can scared of such kind of situation. The option of bravery will be a far cry to such a person.
Hinder your vision
Vision does not refer to sight per say. Think of it this way by a famous saying
If I have seen further than others, it is by standing upon the shoulders of giants. - Isaac Newton
Redact the truth from you
Fear will not let you see clearly your goal or focus.
Harnessing her energy is the key to survival
The narrator understands that he can't take away fear from himself so the best thing to do is use it as tool to motivate him.
her power can control people like voodoo
Knowing fully well that the power of Fear can be used to control people. As dictators and some mean bosses use to control their people or subordinates.
She is raw
Here fear is compared to natural elements
living our hearts and minds
This part can be bit confusing but not to worry the narrator expresses and compares fear to part of your subconscious. If for instance you are in a new environment or you go camping there is a possibility you may not sleep well, this can be a result of your senses alertness of the unknown. The factor at play here is fear in relation to survival instincts.
She's embedded in our senses
Just to c;clarify the above, this line kicks in. Playing Diana Ross He lives in you
She is more than a feeling
She can be your enemy or an ally
a complicated entity
Do not encourage her
Do not embrace her
The preceding lines above describes Fear thereby personifying it even much more with warnings of not given fear an upper hand in your life.
Channel her to motivate you
Then this line says you should use fear to your advantage to keep pushing you.
Become an artist
This poetic line wants you to create how you want fear to be to you
Draw her essence
To achieve your goal
Paint the world of fear to you as you would want it as this will help you to overcome fear.
