Reading the prompt, my mind was quickly drawn to this movie I came across called ”Countdown.” If your guess is right, it's about an app which one downloads and it tells when they'll die. You could also guess how such movies go. It started like a joke for a lady who downloaded it and saw was going to die in three days with signs of things to happen and how it would happen. It was all a joke until the signs began to happen. The issue was that she had informed others about it and when anyone downloads and uses the app, they would have to face the consequences; their death of course, on the said date.
Well, that was some horror fiction that I'm yet to really watch, but just the trailer. But so is this prompt, which is quite something indeed considering people might want to know this to know how to live and plan their lives. Maybe there's an advantage in knowing that so one could prepare, put things in place, bid farewell to their loved ones and avoid doing some unnecessary things. That could be the case for some people, but for me, I'm not buying into that, and I'm certainly not spending on a device that can tell the time of death.
One element of life that makes it life is the ability to hope. And when you talk of hope, it involves having an expectancy of the future, even if the odds are against you. The reason many keep on is that there's the hope that something better and great will come. Knowing the time of death takes away the element of hope. This is about living life as it should be. There's a reason we know our date of birth but our date of death remains unknown. I think it's the natural course of things that should be maintained. And there's a reason for that.
There would be an uneasy feeling knowing such information. It could affect how people live, as there would be a constant tension. No one can escape death, it's a fate for everyone but knowing the time of death could have a fearful grip on people. Sadly, people aren't ready for that. The future is left unknown even for the knowledge of one's death and it's for this good reason I don't consider the device. The best is to live life every day, minute and second with intentionality, dreams, purpose and hope. I don't think that requires knowledge of one's death time notified by a device.
