I woke up to the news that Facebook had recently banned ads that promote bitcoin, ICO's or any other cryptocurrency on the platform, their excuse being that they are trying to protect their users from scammers. Lets face the truth, if there is a legit business, then there exist a fake which is why people must apply wisdom to good information when making investment choices. While most people will see this as bad news, it actually made me laugh because they are walking the same path some big giants did. Facebook or not, the gospel of the blockchain will spread.
Companies who ignored revolutionary technology practically committed suicide and are no where to be found today, I still remember back in 2007 when touch screen phones were introduced to the world. Blackberry would pride themselves insisting their phones would remain the de-facto standard for enterprises. Today they own just 0.8% of the mobile market as reported by IDC.
What about Yahoo, the super big giant that controlled 21% of the online advertising market but now play catch up to Google, Facebook and Microsoft because the ignored the power of search and desired to be more of an online portal.
We've been watching for awhile as publishers desperately hold on to the prospects of print sales. It’s very clear that it’s not going to happen and electronic print is the future. Instead of embracing the digital generation, publishers have been dragging their heels trying to slow it—wasting both time and money in the process.
While they’re over there fighting a lost battle, the market has evolved. People no longer look in the classifieds for jobs. Instead, they log in to LinkedIn or browse Craigslist for listings. If the public wants to catch up on the news they can get their updates from the web or their mobile devices. News paper crossword puzzle is a thing of the past (there’s an app for that! lol).
Revenue in the industry is expected to decline at an average rate of 4.2 percent per year for the next five years according to IBISWorld. The publishing industry can combat these losses using paywalls through application stores across various platforms.
Today the blockchain technology is on an unstoppable course to revolutionizing the world and with it comes cryptocurrencies and smart tokens. A smart company will weigh its options on how to best implement this technology and not try to impede its growth or undermine its potential. Facebook is big today, but if it doesnt connect to the chain, the next generation may only hear tales of its success with nothing to show but its name. Not just Facebook in this case but any other giant who thinks its too big to evolve.
