After having been to the 14-45 war museum, last weekend we went to the Vidotto museum, the second one of this kind in my region, in fact there are only two in total with a vehicle park. I had wanted to go there for a while because I had seen some photos online, so before the beach season started I decided to go there.
The largest part of the museum is the uniforms section, it is really well done, there are uniforms from various periods and nations, from WW1 up to more recent times, some complete with equipment. Some were real armored suits and it makes you think about how heavy all that stuff must have been to wear, especially in certain conditions; or the uniforms of the Italian soldiers in Russia during the Second World War, although winter uniforms they were clearly unsuitable for a Russian winter.
There is also the armory with rifles, machine guns, pistols, grenades, etc... Interesting to notice the evolution over time.
But the best part for me and my son was the vehicle park and the artillery pieces. Seeing certain vehicles in person compared to videos or photos is a completely different thing, also in terms of the perception of their size. There was a tank that you could climb onto and enter either the turret or the driver's position, obviously I let my son climb in and he was happy about it. There was also a military helicopter and it was possible to climb into that as well, we did that too.
All in all it was a pleasant visit, I was satisfied with it... I am only sorry that there are no more museums of this kind in my region because beyond the fun aspect for a child, seeing weapons and vehicles in person makes war feel more "real" and makes you think about how much death they can easily bring and how your life can end in 2 seconds in certain scenarios, things that more politicians should reflect on before speaking.
