THE BONES OF BOLAS
This was inspired by Stargate, Silmarillion, and MTG. It started of as a landscape study and counts as my first ever.
I've always been afraid of landscapes and environmental art, mostly because I don't romanticize nature. But I've recently been advised to tackle it since landscaping and environment design feature a lot in illustrative artwork.
This was a major struggle for me because of the above-mentioned bias but also because I've spent all my life drawing people. In principle, doing landscapes requires the understanding of shapes, values, and hue shifts pretty much the same as portrait, concept art, etc. But the most important element for doing this style of work is perspective, which is something I've never really dealt with in any previous stuff.
Besides that, it was interesting having to switch to something kinda different but I am a natural chameleon so this is all apart and typical.
How do you think I did for my first time?
I'll be posting a process videos on Saturday, so stay tuned in.
