And so, now that I'm bored with portrait work I'm going to be doing these for a little while until portrait work wins me back.
For now, I'm completely vibing with original illustration stuff and maybe I'll even mock up some flavor text for a little context, even if it's momentarily contrived. Something like...

Heaven's sword that felled Zho'Xen and undid the first world.
This time I decided to be brave and get some color in the pot. I usually have no idea what's going to come out the other end. It can be a pleasant surprise or dead thing mocking the subject as representation removed twice. But the former won out and I'm very pleased with the outcomes.
It's not often that one incidentally happens, form and genre, onto one of their influences, Alex Ross.
Now, I'm not saying this looks like his work, I wouldn't make such a bold claim. I'll leave that to you. But it does have... the feel of it.
