Jeremiah 18:14
14 Will a man leave the snow of Lebanon which
cometh from the rock of the field? or shall the cold
flowing waters that come from another place be
forsaken?
Today's question focuses on the unchanging beauty and blessings of the snow on the summits of Lebanon, which provides runoffs of cool, clean, life-sustaining water. When God delivered the message of Jeremiah 18, He was speaking figuratively - He was Israel's Rock and the Source of a never-ending flow of water.
The point of all this is that no reasonable person would think of abandoning such a rich supply of clean, cold water and instead resort to laboring to find an inferior water supply. Yet, that's exactly what the people of Israel did when they abandoned God and turned to idols.
Fast-forward some six centuries, and another great prophet - the Son of God, Jesus Christ - spoke to a thirsty woman seeking water at a well and referred to Himself as the Source of eternal, life-giving water...
John 4:13-14
13 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever
drinketh of this water shall thirst again:
14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall
give him shall never thirst; but the water that I
shall give him shall be in him a well of water
springing up into everlasting life.
Though few know it, we live in a world that is desperately thirsty for the water of life that Jesus freely offers. Let us never forget to ask God to bring these people into our sphere of influence and then make sure to lead them to the place where they can freely drink.
