“OK, just hide in the wardrobe, Milton, because you really do not need Edwina seeing you like that.”

“But I don't see why plaid and spots together can't be the new fashion trend – we are the young people who set the trends, Velma!”

“Milton, that was out of fashion together so long ago that probably, Wilt Chamberlain was dunking basketballs while the brontosauruses were looking at him.”

“Whoa – back in the prehistory of basketball when players were still wearing Converse sneakers?”

“Basically, Milton.”

“Actually, I still think Dad has some replicas – I wonder how they would look with this outfit.”

“Just hide in the wardrobe, Milton – you are not going to be able to run in those big things from the Wrath of Edwina revealed against all crimes against fashion.”

Eleven-year-old Velma Trent was trying to be the voice of reason with her red-and-gold plaid-topped and black-with-white-spots bottomed nine-year-old brother Milton Trent, who had gotten into a trunk of some of their parents' childhood costume clothes, while their eight-year-old sister Gracie Trent was coming back to the Trent house with her best friend Edwina Ludlow.

By the time Gracie and Edwina arrived, Milton had taken his sister Velma's advice and gone to change and put the clothes back in the trunk, but …

“Well, how about this?”

And Milton reemerged in a whole zoot suit replica his father had worn as a ten-year-old, big, baggy, and sky blue with a wide-brimmed Fedora that was so big that Milton had to lift it to see as he popped out – “Tada!”

Gracie, Edwina, and Velma stared.

“Isn't that one of those zoot suits from the 1920s, and so vintage?” Edwina said.

“Yeah,” Gracie, Milton, and Velma said.

“Well, as long as you don't throw back a bottle of beer, and I don't have coal-black hair, but I'll run a comb through close enough,” Edwina said. “That's actually kinda cool, Milton – what else have y'all got in your wardrobes?”
