As you all well know, President Trump made headlines concerning trangenders in the military yesterday, and I wanted to address my point of view, as I believe it is arguably held by a majority of both active members as well as veterans alike. For all of you that support trangenders serving in the military, this message is for you, as I do not believe that the media is painting the full picture of what this transition entails.
Trangenderism is a mental disorder otherwise known as gender dysphoria, as outlined in the DSM V. So, you are saying that people with known mental disorders should be able to serve and everyone just has to accept their lifestyle choices? Yeah, no thanks. Glad I am out of the service. The stupidity has reached epic proportions with this one. What about people with flat feet? Or, people that are too fat, too thin, who had a previous diagnosis of ADHD, were given an inhaler as a child, or any of the other limiting conditions that exclude folks from serving? What about convicted felons? Hell, society is fucked, and what was once black and white has become gray in most aspects. America is experiencing an identity crisis, but we should not degrade our military in the process of finding ourselves.
Remember, the military is a war machine that openly discriminates and only takes those who qualify. You are asking the military to lower the bar, and allow a liability into its ranks. The surgery costs precious training time. The therapy costs the same. All things a commander has to juggle and the push to approve time for a soldier who is transgender to complete their transformation over a troop wanting LASIK surgery puts the command in a weird spot. They want equal treatment without the equal standards.... I have seen people denied time to get back surgery in my military days due to training needs.
A study carried out by the American Society for Suicide Prevention found that trangenders are 10x more likely to attempt suicide than the general population. Veterans are already at high-risk for suicide, and this change represents an endorsed plan for us to further add to the suicide epidemic that has hit the veteran community.
What the media is focusing on is the perpetual attack on Trump and anything the man says is scrutinized. Today he is anti-tranny, yesterday he was a Russian spy. Tomorrow... who knows, as time will tell.
Take it for what it is worth. This all coming from a 15-year, combat veteran with plenty of opinion still left to give.
