Last Saturday I had a nice little RPG session and we had to stop at the final battle. That's ok for me because I didn't finish the rules for the country and because of that, I have more time to come up with something cool.
In my last post, I wrote a bit about the 5 different attributes representing the country and people of the Barastie: Wealth, Military, Moral, Magic, and Reputation and that they have a value ranging from 0 to 10.
I thought about having something like the industry as another attribute but I think it's more interesting if the players can use their wealth to buy buildings and other stuff. So when the attribute system is finished I will create stuff like buildings, mercenaries, magic artifacts they can buy by using their wealth attribute.
The attributes will be interdependent so for example if one attribute is much higher than another one it may start some events. Let's say that we have a high wealth rating of 8 and a low moral rating of 3. These numbers show us that the country has a lot of money but the people are not that happy. So there will be a little resistance group against the players may be in form of a Robin Hood character who tries to steal from them and give it to the poor people resulting in a negative modifier reducing wealth until they fixed the problem.
I would assume that if one attribute rating is twice as big as another it can cause problems which can be used as entrance points for new adventures: Having a lot of money but a bad reputation may result in a visit of a neighbor and in that case the players may get the info that the ruler of another small country is planning to attack them because they are sitting on a big pot of gold and also insulted him last time. Having a high Military may stop him from attacking.
So the first rule in short form:
If one attribute is more than twice as big as another attribute it may cause some ruckus. I think that is a very simple way to create some nice openings for adventures.
The attributes on their own will have some special features as well. I wrote a bit about them in my last post and I will try to create some simple rules for them. In the next post, I will write a bit about Wealth and the benefits of having a high Wealth rating.
