Oakland Cemetery
During my trip for the book I am working on, we made a stop to the Oakland Cemetery in Atlanta, Georgia because there were a portion of the cemetery that has some Civil War.
The cemetery was filled with so many other amazing structures that ranged from elaborate statues to very old and warn grave markers.
Some of the more elaborate statues were pretty awesome and towered over most of the other nearby graves.
The cemetery seemed to be have been seperated by wealth and status when it had originally been designed. Off in the far corner of the cemetery there was a large empty field that a lot of people think is a picnic type of area, but it was actually where they would bury black people during the early time of the cemetery. There was only a few grave markers in that area even though hundreds of people were buried there.
The cemetery was rich with history and was a great stop for us on our travels for the book about the Civil War.
