Who is the Holy Spirit?
The Holy Spirit is the Third Person of the Trinity. The word "Spirit" makes us think of all those mysterious beings to who sacrifices are offered in the traditional African religions. But the Holy Spirit of God I see not at all like any of these powers. He I see holy, which means He is separate, entirely different from anything that man can imagine. The word "spirit" means "breath". Breathing, or restoration, is a sign of life. The Holy Spirit is God giving life (Genesis 1:2).
The Holy Spirit is a Person
He is not simply an influence, a power similar to that of the wind which we cannot see, but which can be used if necessary. No, on the contrary, the Holy Spirit is a Master to whom we must listen. Several texts state that He is a Person. Paul declares that the Holy Spirit has a will of His own: "But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually just as He wills"
(1 Corinthians 12:11).
Elsewhere, it is said that He can Bebe grieved: "And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God...." ( Ephesians 4:30). Only a person can be grieved.
The Holy Spirit is God
He is not simply a servant of God like the angles, who are also Spirits: "Do you not know that you are a temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?"
(1 Corinthians 3:16).
By the Holy Spirit, God the father and Jesus Christ the Son are present in the heart of the believer (Romans 8:9; John 14:23; 1John 3:24). If the Holy Spirit were not God, Paul could not say, "You are a temple of God."
