Chinese New Year reunion dinner is an important gathering for all familiy members to usher in the new year with a renewed spirit ,hopes and blessings.
Though I am mixed races call Sino kadazan which meant my dad is a chinese and my mum is a Kadazan (local Sabah native), my family surname is "Pang" a descendant from the Hakka chinese. I do not have much knowledge about my chinese root however I have carried on the traditional to get together as a strong reminder of my chinese heritage. During dinner, I also reminded my children that this is a good ritual to continue on.
This year reunion dinner, we have decided to have it at Red Onion restaurant. So, taking a break from the chinese menu to more western dishes. All of us ordered our own ala carte set.
Breaking away from the norm and doing something different is a good practice once in a while. It gives you a varying perspective of things and you may be pleasantly surprise of any new aha insight from it.
