Once you've successfully crowdfunded a project, reward fulfillment is the biggest challenge. But in today's post, I won't talk about that. I want to talk about how, well, fulfilling and rewarding it can be.
Yesterday, I sat for three hours in a cafe, with books and cups, and supporters of my campaign came to pick up their books and/or cups. It was such a delight, such a great experience.
Meeting people who are all excited to have supported the continued existence of Nova Press, my tiny publishing house, who loved the first few books or haven't read them but are still happy to take part in helping an sff publishing house survive and thrive, in helping MY tiny publishing house survive and thrive, is just incredibly rewarding.
In this world of ours, it is easy to think of people as being bad. It is very easy to be jaded and cynical. Events like yesterday are a terrific reminded that many people are actually awesome and wonderful and kind.
It was hard to get to the cafe, carrying a whole bunch of heavy books. It was hard to get to where I am in life, as a publisher, a translator, a partner in life. But being there, and being here, has been rewarding and fulfilling.
