Lovely work done by a Mauritian artist. This is the second time I have found paintings by Daphné Doomun. She has done this work on of the buildings located at the L'Aventure du Sucre Museum in Pamplemousse. The museum is inside an old sugar factory and when you visit it, you will learn a lot about sugar and how Mauritian history is connected with sugar. I have been here a couple of times, but this is the first time I see the paintings on the buildings.
The building that has become her canvas, is the kitchen belonging to the restaurant that is situated outside the museum building itself. She has decorated two walls with mofifs from nature on the island. It is nature here in Mauritius that has inspired her. She is showing the diversity of when it comes to plants and birds. Even the island is small, it has quite a diverse landscape.
She painted these walls as part of participating a workshop organized by L'Aventure du Sucre. The artists were given completely freedom to paint whatever they wanted. Last time when I found one of her paintings, the theme was life in the ocean (check link). This time she is inpired by nature. She has painted plants and birds that are native to the island. The Dodo and the pigeom I recognize. Daphé was born in 1989 here in Mauritius. She is a graphic designer, but has also worked for houses like Kenzo and Parfumes Civenchy.
