Do you enjoy watching people dance? I really enjoy it! First of all, dancers usually have toned muscles without much extra fat, and their muscle lines are just beautiful. They look so pleasing to the eye. The dance movements are sometimes graceful, sometimes wild, and they flow with the rhythm of the music, creating a kind of smooth, rhythmic beauty. Dance and music are inseparable, complementing each other. Especially with fast-paced dance tracks, they give you this rush of energy, making you want to jump in and dance along.
Although I’m not particularly into K-Pop music, groups like BLACKPINK and BTS have become an unstoppable force worldwide, and they’re adored by many young people across the globe. In recent years, the phenomenon of K-Pop Cover Dance has emerged. I first came across it on YouTube. It’s mainly about mimicking every dance move, expression, and even the facial expressions from the idols’ music videos. Some groups even shoot their own music video-style covers and share them on video platforms, connecting with fellow fans. These cover dance groups are usually formed by students, so it’s kind of a subculture among young people.
The cover dance performances I’ve seen on YouTube often take place at popular spots, with the dancers dressed fashionably. The filming is usually done in a single take. This time, the shoot was happening in the pedestrian area of Xinyi District. There were no staff blocking off the area, so many passersby, like me, stopped to watch. It’s not something you see every day. The young dancers were really dressed up, looking stylish and attractive. With the fast-paced music playing, they moved their bodies, and it all looked pretty professional. The cameraman in front of them wasn’t just using a phone; it was a professional-looking camera, definitely not cheap. The camera was zooming in and out, following the dancers’ movements and expressions.
People say it takes ten years of practice to perform for three minutes on stage. I imagine that for ordinary people, just memorizing the dance moves and positions could take dozens of hours, not to mention practicing the steps until they’re smooth and natural before finally filming. The effort probably doesn’t translate into much money. Those young people are probably driven by passion and a sense of accomplishment. No wonder the ones doing this are dream-chasing young people. As for me, I just want to go home and relax. I guess most people, once they start working, gradually see their dreams worn away by reality. But watching young people chase their dreams is still pretty nice.
