That day after work, I didn’t go straight home. Instead, I made a detour to a night market I don’t usually visit, planning to grab some food to take home.
As soon as I walked in, I saw all kinds of vendors. Some were selling fresh vegetables and fruits, others had freshly prepared meat and seafood, and there were even stalls selling clothes and daily necessities. It’s not only a place to buy ingredients, but it’s also a really convenient spot for everyday needs. The vendors were calling out to customers in their well-practiced voices, one after another, creating a lively and bustling atmosphere.
What attracts me most about these markets, besides the fresh ingredients, is the variety of ready-to-eat food. That’s actually the main reason I came. I wanted to pick up something quick to eat. The fried food stalls were especially tempting, with delicious smells filling the air. At the fried chicken stall around the corner, there was already a long line. They didn’t just sell fried chicken, but all kinds of fried snacks, and business looked really good.
Where there are crowds, there’s money. As long as people are willing to stop, spend, and share, the cash flow will follow. Even though the market is only open for a few hours, the number of people it attracts is pretty impressive. That’s actually one of the reasons I don’t come here often because I really don’t like waiting in line.
As the sun starts to set, more and more people pour into the market, and the place gradually comes alive. Even though the stalls line both sides of the street and cars technically can still pass through, you rarely see vehicles inside. The crowd makes it almost impossible to move, so it’s kind of an unspoken rule. Usually, only people unfamiliar with the area make the mistake of trying to drive through.
Toward closing time, many vendors start offering big discounts. People, especially older shoppers, usually take advantage of this time to grab some good deals. I didn’t stay too long, though. At around 6 p.m., I grabbed a few boxes of fried food and headed out.
The evening market is always packed, but it’s also a great place to observe everyday life and soak in that warm, lively human atmosphere.
