LAST UPDATE INCLUDED SOME THE FOLLOWING NOTES TO OUR ARTIST
Pull back a little on the frame showing Father Smith ripping off his shirt. We need to see a little more of an in-between here for the transformation, so make the flesh a little less inflamed and a little more flesh toned so we see that the transformation is at a stage just before the skin really begins to bubble up and fall off. I think that'll also help us emphasize the cracks in his skin that we're seeing on his torso.
During the explosive frame, add bits of flesh toned bits here or there as well to get a sense of the old skin falling away with the blood and slime.
Add a little bubbling of flesh on the right side of Father Smith's face and shoulder like we're seeing in the explosive frame, but shrink it and make it a little more flesh colored so we get a sense that the old skin is beginning it's shedding.
Make final pose of Judith more exhausted and looking at us as though the transformation took a lot out of her. Because it would take a lot out of anyone. I want her looking at us so we can emphasize the change in color of her eyes compared to Father Smith, which are brown.
Make Judith's new skin look a little new. Maybe a little more pink than average.

Sun burns are incredibly painful and do a surprising amount of damage to skin. I thought that these effects would work as an example of tissue damage that appears superficial at first. I think the note was applied well and gives the impression of tissue that is burning or melting itself off.

As you can see, the realism got a little more... real. The flesh tones help to sell the sloughing of Father Smith's skin. That it's cracking and swelling and falling off. I think Norm did a great job conveying what I was looking for in the notes.
One, recent change that was not included in the notes I emailed to Norm was that we should make Judith's eyes a brilliant blue to match Toni Christopher's eyes and to help sell the transformation. If you look closely, you can see Father Smith's eyes falling out of his head during metamorphosis, and when Judith emerges from Father Smith, her new, blue eyes emerge as well, helping sell the transformation.
Also, we'll have his eyes fall out, so seeing new, blue eyes should have an impact on the audience, that says something to the effect of, "transformation now complete".
We'll see though. You never know how all of this is gonna turn out!
