Hello dear Steemians,
Remember the Kiritsuke I did for my friend's brother-in-law?
Well, the one I did for her is finally done.
She actually bought herself a nice block of red died maple burl so I used that for the handle
Nu, the knife is spending her first weekend in the new home so it seems right that I make a build post about her.
As always, a few stats (no measurements - I was Dumb-Dumb and forgot), followed by a few progress pics with witty captures, and a set of nicer pics at the very end.
Steel: 1095 differentialy heat treated with a light lemon-juice etche
Handle: stabilized and died maple burl
Size: I would call this a mid-size gyuto - it's about banana and a half long
The build
Just out of the HT - she's the third one from the left
I had to kill a clown to get just the right colour for the handle
Rough finish off the grinder and my super-secret code for handle assembly
I was fortunate to have great weather in Jan - so I did the hand-sanding outside
Hand-sanding done on the blade and pre-hand-sanding on the handle
The final dry-fit
The final product
And that's it!
Thank you for stopping by and stay tunned because I'll have a new "real" post in a day or two...
