Researchers investigating the driver of individual success say that personality might have more to do with it than IQ. They analyzed a variety of international data sets and they found that when they combined personality tests with other test scores, that they then had a much better prediction of a life outcome for an individual.
The researchers suggest that the personality of the individual is what can really play a big role in fueling the career outcome for them. For getting a new job for example, it isn't all just about IQ smarts, there is also the requirement of demonstrating the ability to show up on time, work with others and maintain healthy relationships, communicate effectively with others, and so on.
Connections and intellect can take you so far, but in many cases it is going to be the personality that will be what determines how well the individual does. Are they going to fulfill commitments? Are they going to work hard? Are they going to be honest or set goals for themselves? These are all part of their personality and personal drive.
This isn't the first time that personality has been credited with playing such an important role in influencing future success either. It might be so critical that it has also been suggested that the personality of your partner/spouse is also going to play an important role in the factor of success too, according to researchers at Washington University in St. Louis.
Considering that it is the personality which greatly plays a role in the success of the individual, perhaps this is why we can find commonly shared traits that successful individuals share among themselves. Successful people are often found to: pay attention to detail, set goals, reward themselves, organize their time, are grateful, and more.
A high IQ isn't going to be all that it takes in order to help someone achieve success. It is going to take self-discipline, organization, goal-setting, and plenty more. And when it comes to "success" itself, certainly there are various definitions as to what that might entail, for everyone it is different. For some it's a loving family and for others it's a large bank account balance. There is no single formula for 'life success', but speaking in business terms, like success at work, personality is seen to be a critical player in chances of achieving advancement and longevity.
