My surrealist dream was most likely inspired by living by the sea
The serenity of watching sails slide by on warm summer days is in itself dreamy.
Tho I took liberties with reality in this piece, you'd be surprised to know that the sky colour, tho played up in this piece, is not unlike my actual sunrises here. We get the most breaktaking sherbet orange and cotton candy pink sunrise and sunsets here.
I underpainted in bright almost neon oranges after sketching this piece out and to give the woman glow I painted her sketched in figure in glowing neon pinks. I felt the contrast with the azure blue of the sea would give her even a more dreamy feeling.
I wanted to give her the look of grabbing onto a line hanging from the passing 'sea whale' as he lifts her from her upturned conveyance of brolly and sail.
I love Story in my work no matter which of my styles I go for. In such a surrealist piece as this the story can be very open ended: is it a dream? Is there a parallel world just under the taut surface of the sea? It's up to the viewer.
I hope you enjoyed this piece and have a lovely day; remember Stay Creative!
