Antichrist Superstar [previous album] already was a revolutionary achievement for doing something different and also to question the zeigeist what was relevant in those times. During these times Manson had to go trough alot, it is clear to see from the songs that this album is dark and challenging one.

Later on when Mansons autobiography book was finished he moved to Hollywood and started whole new scenario with Mechanical Animals. This was definitely a different approach and a "lighter" album. First thing what Manson have said that he felt alienated being in Hollywood and quoted "The more I started to feel, the less the world seemed to feel". Influences can be seen quite a similiar to 'The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust' times when David Bowie we're also a Glam Rocker. Similiar to Ziggy Stardust Mechanical Animals tells about a role of a crazy rock/shock- star who in the other hand is addicted on drugs but on other side is a trans- humanoid whos exemption is to bring rock back alive. There's a omega symbol used in the album, which represents the end of (something) of this era and does not have reference to career ending obviously.

Most famous songs of the album, such as 'The Dope Show' In the music video Manson plays androgynous and ironic character, which basically presents that how commercial music have became. Other one being 'Rock Is Dead' which also is on Matrix official soundtrack. Both of the songs were performed in MTV Music awards live!
