And the prize for the most fascinating reading for this Friday goes to this New York Times story about Georgia and its place on the worldwide Bitcoin map.
A few highlights from it (highly recommend reading it entirely, it's mesmerizing):
- when Bitcoin was trading for $20,000 farmers started to sell cows and began mining Bitcoin, it was more profitable
- Bitfury got a loan of $10 million to set up shop in Georgia, and got a huge real estate deal just to have a place where to start piling up mining rigs
- In a town situated 3 hours from the main city, Tbilisi, called Kvareli, it's estimated that half of the 6,000 inhabitants had some sort of a mining rig installed.
- people set up mining pools of up to 60 computers in their home garages
All in all, like I said, a fascinating story.
