Three years after making The Undiscovered Country one of the best rides into sunset into history of cinema, producers of Star Trek film series had to ruin it with another mediocre sequel. The general idea behind was good, though. Generations was supposed to link the crew and plots of the original series with Star Trek: The New Generation and feature two legendary captains of USS Enterprise – James T. Kirk (played by William Shatner) and Jean-Luc Picard (played by Patrick Stewart). Both actors play their role well and are aided by David Carson's solid direction, big budget and special effects that were quite impressive for early 1990s. Unfortunately, all that does little to solve problems created complicated time traveling plot, Malcolm McDowell playing another insane villain, melodramatic ending and, last but not least, visible absence of the most iconic members of original Star Trek cast.
