Few Hollywood film franchises are despised among critics like Transformers. The first film, directed in 2007 by Michael Bay, proved to be another example of major blockbuster that lacked any trace of subtletly, deep content or common sense. Story of Autobots and Decepticons - two alien races that mimic machinery - and their conflict on Earth is nothing more than an excuse for endless and repetitive scenes of CGI, explosions and mayhem. Thankfully, Bay's scriptwriters Roberto Orczi and Alex Kurtzman find enough room to use some cliched, but well-packaged elements like nerdy protagonist (played by Shia LaBeouf), his stunningly attractive love interest (played by Megan Fox in the best known role of her career), macho US soldiers (played by Josh Duhamel and Tyrese Gibson) and couple of comic reliefs (played by Anthony Anderson and John Turturro). Because of their efforts, Transformers is watchable, even despite the confusing and anti-cathartic final showdown scene, during which robot battles don't look as attractive as they should be.
