For those of you who missed the post of the release, I briefly explained how the series began as an idea for a Young Adult novel, and that I had in fact written what amounts to a novella taking place the summer before REBORN begins, and I decided to release it here on steemit.
BORN
Epilogue
A week later Anna was lying on the couch in her living room with Austin after another thorough session of therapy when the ten o’clock news caught her eye. Two brothers had been arrested for the fatal stabbing of a man in central park.
“What is it?” Austin asked as she sat up.
She narrowed her eyes and shook her head slightly, “I don’t know…I feel like I’ve seen them before.”
He glanced at the television, “Where?”
She frowned. “I don’t know,” she repeated slowly. She stared at the image of the deceased man with a strange sense of de ja vu.
“Grassroots!” She nearly shouted. “They were at the scene of the fight. I saw the darker haired one looking at me… and that dead man- he was the one with black eyes…” She reached for the remote and turned the volume up but the program was already shifting to the next piece.
Austin started to say something but her phone rang, cutting him off. Jenna.
“Anna?” Jenna said her name in a tone that had the hair on the back of her arms standing on end.
“Yeah?” She answered tentatively.
“I happened to walk in while my parents were watching the news, and there were these two guys…I dreamed about them. And you were in the dream. I can’t explain it but…can I come over?”
“Of course,” Anna nearly whispered it as she pressed end.
“What’s going on?” Austin asked, concerned now. “You’re white as a ghost.”
“Jenna dreamed about them,” she pushed out through dry lips. “And I was in it. I think…that man was possessed, and those two guys knew it.”
“So, what does that mean? What…
“I’m going to find out where they’ve been taken,” she interrupted, “I need to talk to them. I have questions and they might have the answers.” She took in his darkening expression and grabbed his hand. “Austin please support me. I need this.”
He sighed, then smiled grudgingly, “It’s never boring with you.”
She wrapped her arms around him. “I love you,” she told him.
His lip quirked, “Yeah, yeah.”
The sound of a car on the blue stone driveway alerted them to Jenna’s arrival. She would have to tell her friend about the shadow men, she decided. She started to feel anxious then thought if anyone would understand it would be her prophetic, psychic friend.
As Jenna walked into the living room Anna was overcome by an odd, fated feeling.
Her life was about to change irrevocably.
I hope you enjoyed this glimpse into the process of How The Allies of Old began. I'm currently working on book three and toying with the idea of releasing a book I wrote in my early twenties here on steemit. It will be an exercise in vulnerability.
More on that to come.
