Being new to the whole crypto currency world a couple of months back, i felt it was right to read into the do's and don'ts, because upon reading various sources about it all. theres been users who have lost fortunes or put all their current savings into 1 crypto choice, without hesitating, and end up losing it, or getting little profit, to losing theirs due to not saving passwords on PAPER. & being hacked & their sensitive crypto info being copied and therefore funds being stolen..
which comes to this.. if you're new to the game as i am.
Get yourself a cheap b/w printer it'll be worth it in the long run. print a couple of copies, 2 at the minimum.. keep them in the house, separate places, only where you know the location is. if you don't wish to print and rather keep them on a thumb drive. Get a security type one, where you're required to enter a password to access it.. called an ironkey. there maybe other types out there also.
The next thing that comes to mind. coin storage.
There are a few methods you can use, paper wallets as you've likely heard of. for those not aware, there are plenty of diy guides on youtube to assist you with.
Get a hardware wallet, something like a nano S or a trezor.
there is a 3rd option, only if you know what you're doing with computers, & thats to install your wallet app onto a thumb drive. mac users might know of this. its a cheap method. but personally i'd use a hardware wallet, as its more secure from spywares, far as i know of still.
2ndly. going onto crypto coins.. it's not always good to keep all your eggs in 1 basket, as they can be lost.. if you find you've got multiple coin-wallets, due to trading then the hardware system is the best option. if you're just using 1 or 2 types max, split your funds. keep some on 1 device, and another on your fone maybe, or the thumb drive app install method. long as you only use that on the machine you installed it with, because using it elsewhere, may pic up malwares from pc's
never use online storage. because of that mtgox scenario years ago. where someone ran off with loads of users coins.
I know it's a lot of info to take in, and can be overwhelming. but it's worth it..
Lasty aways read read read on things you're new to with the coin markets. any questions that come to mind, search it up. it'll benefit you :)
Sometime i might post another thread on what i've learnt, to share on.
Thankyou for reading this. hope it helps.
