SoloHive Update — What's New
First Update Post
Hey guys. With the recent launch of SoloHive, we (my partner Claude and I) are still identifying bugs and adding features. This is the first update post we have made for the project.
Bug Fixes
Most of the bug fixes were related to formatting and layout of post data from the Hive API. We had a bit of trouble with the mix of markdown and HTML that Hivers use in their posts. Our focus was remedying those issues before we started working on the features that Hive users have come to expect from other front ends.
New Features
We have added four new features to SoloHive. These features I felt were important. Mentions and hashtags being clickable along with post authors in community mode, lead traffic back to the Hive front end of choice set by SoloHive users. Even though this project is about users hosting their own Hive data, I still want to see Hive grow.
New Features Report
Next is a report of the new features along with short descriptions I prompted Claude to create.
Configurable Hive Frontend — SoloHive no longer hardcodes links to hive.blog. Users can now set their preferred frontend — PeakD, Ecency, Inleo, or any other — in the config file. One setting changes all links across the entire site including author profiles, "View on Hive", and the new mention and hashtag links.
and #hashtag Linking — Hive posts are full of
and #tags. They now render as clickable links pointing to the configured frontend, just like every major Hive frontend does. The links are smart enough not to double-link things already inside code blocks or existing links.
Clickable Post Authors — The author avatar and username on post pages are now clickable, linking to their profile on the configured frontend. Comment authors are clickable too. Especially useful in community mode where posts come from multiple authors.
YouTube Embed Support — Bare YouTube URLs in post bodies now render as embedded video players automatically. Supports standard videos, shortened youtu.be links, timestamped links, and YouTube Live stream URLs. Players are fully responsive and scale cleanly on mobile.
Disclaimer
This update report was put together with AI assistance. The features, the code, and the decisions behind them are all mine.
The Wrap up
That's about it for this post on SoloHive updates. We are still testing and squashing bugs when they pop up. Also we have a list of to-dos we are working on.
So thanks for your support and see you next time
