God of War: Ragnarok- Kratos vs Heimdall [ENG+ESP]

It’s been a few months now since I finished replaying both installments of God of War IV. Unfortunately, I was never able to share my experiences with that gaming masterpiece because I lost all my screenshots and gameplay videos. Or so I thought.

Inside the Videos/NVIDIA folder, I found some of my videos that apparently survived when I switched operating systems. Not all of them were there, but there were some really good ones. Among them is Kratos’s fight with what I consider to be the most insufferable and annoying enemy in the entire series. And yes, as you may have already guessed, I’m referring to Heimdall, who is undoubtedly the most arrogant Aesir of them all.

Hace ya algunos meses que terminé de jugar nuevamente las dos entregas de God of War IV. Lamentablemente, nunca pude compartir mis experiencias en esa obra maestra gamer porque perdí todas las capturas de pantalla y videos de mis gameplays. O al menos eso pensaba.

Dentro de la carpeta Videos/NVIDIA encontré algunos videos míos que al parecer se salvaron cuando hice el cambio de sistema operativo. No estaban todos, pero sí algunos muy buenos. Entre ellos destaca la pelea de Kratos con el que para mí es el enemigo más insufrible y molesto de toda la saga. Y sí, como ya se habrán fijado, me refiero a Heimdall, el cual es sin dudas el aesir más engreído de todos.

Before the fight, I was accompanying Freya in the world of Vanaheim as we searched for her brother. The exact location was the Plains of Vanaheim. And well, after some taunting from Heimdall, Kratos orders Freya to move on because he must face this challenge alone. So this battle is fought without assistance.

Antes de la pelea me encontraba acompañando a Freya en el mundo de Vanehain mientras buscábamos a su hermano. El lugar exacto era Plains of Vanaheim. Y bueno, tras algunas burlas por parte de Heimdall, Kratos le ordena a Freya continuar porque él debe enfrentar este desafío solo. Así que este combate es sin asistencia.

The first phase of the fight is against Heimdall and his mount, Gulltoppr. This part isn't usually difficult, since you can deal significant damage from a distance with the spear Draupnir until the mount's health bar is completely depleted and it is defeated.

La primera fase de la pelea es contra Heimdall y su montura Gulltoppr. Esta parte no suele ser difícil, ya que con la lanza Draupnir se logran asestar muy buenos golpes a distancia hasta bajar toda la barra de vida de la montura y asesinarla.

The second phase of the battle is a one-on-one fight against Heimdall, who makes it clear from the start that he considers himself superior to Kratos. And that was indeed the case for a while, because every time Kratos managed to stun him, Heimdall would recover and dodge every single blow. But as the saying goes: third time’s the charm.

La segunda fase del combate es un mano a mano contra Heimdall, el cual deja bien claro desde un principio que se considera superior a Kratos. Y fue así durante algunos instantes, pues cada vez que lograba aturdirlo, este se recuperaba y evadía cada uno de los golpes. Pero como dice el dicho: a la tercera es la vencida.

Heimdall himself couldn't believe that, after all these years, an opponent had finally made him bleed. What he also didn't expect was that Kratos was going to beat him to a pulp time and time again.

El propio Heimdall no podía creer que, luego de tantos años, por fin un contrincante lo había hecho sangrar. Lo que tampoco se imaginaba era que Kratos lo iba a moler a palos una y otra vez.

The second phase of the battle continued with several exchanges of blows, including Kratos’ Spartan Rage and a strange ability of Heimdall’s that allows him to slow down time, making it harder to react or dodge.

La segunda fase del combate continuó con varios intercambios de golpes, incluyendo el modo ira espartana de Kratos y una habilidad extraña de Heimdall que le permite ralentizar el tiempo, lo cual hace más difícil reaccionar o esquivar.

The second phase ends with Heimdall being impaled against a wall by the spear Draupnir, which was stuck in his right arm. Kratos, guided by Mimir’s words, had intended to spare his life in exchange for him staying away from Atreus, but faced with Heimdall’s threats, he had no choice but to detonate the spearhead, successfully tearing off Heimdall’s right arm.

El final de la segunda fase llega con Heimdall siendo empalado a un muro por la lanza Draupnir, la cual tenía clavada en el brazo derecho. Kratos, siendo guiado por las palabras de Mimir, tenía pensado perdonarle la vida a cambio de que se alejara de Atreus, pero ante las amenazas de Heimdall, no le quedó más remedio que hacer explotar la punta de la lanza, logrando arrancarle el brazo derecho a Heimdall.

But far from stopping Heimdall, this action only enraged him further, to such an extent that he channeled his Aesir divinity into a new right arm made of pure ancient magic, thus ushering in the third phase of the battle.

Pero esta acción, lejos de frenar a Heimdall, lo que hizo fue enloquecerlo aún más, a tal extremo que concentró su divinidad Aesir en un nuevo brazo derecho de pura magia antigua, dando comienzo así a la tercera fase del combate.

In the third phase, the fight picks up the pace, and while I managed to land some solid combos on Heimdall, I have to admit he landed a few on me too.

En la tercera fase, el combate se hace más rápido y, si bien logro hacer que Kratos le conecte unos buenos combos de golpes a Heimdall, también he de admitir que este también me dio unos cuantos.

But since nothing lasts forever, the third phase and the battle itself end with Kratos—almost consumed by rage—strangling Heimdall with his own hands as Heimdall watches his life slip away before his very eyes. At the end, we see Heimdall’s body lying on the ground as the Gjallarhorn is taken from him. This object will later play a significant role in the story.

Pero como nada es eterno, la tercera fase y el combate en sí terminan con un Kratos casi poseído por su ira ahorcando con sus propias manos a un Heimdall que ve cómo su vida se desvanece ante sus propios ojos. Ya al final vemos el cuerpo de Heimdall tendido en el piso y siendo despojado del cuerno Gjallarhorn. Este objeto más adelante en la historia tendrá un gran significado.
