Hace unos días alquilé HBO MAX y ansiaba mucho empezar a ver algunos títulos que se encuentran en dicha plataforma de streaming. Las noches son de película y aprovecho el tiempo antes de dormir para disfrutar de alguna película. Bueno eso si no me quedo dormido por el cansancio del día. Pero si, la mayoría de las veces logro verlas completa. En esta ocasión quise empezar con ver alguna película de suspenso. De hecho, empecé con “El exorcista del Papa” Una muy buena historia. Algunos efectos especiales que me parecieron de juguetes pero no les hablaré del “El exorcista del Papa” hablaremos de como la tecnología puede ser un peligroso utensilio.
A few days ago I rented HBO MAX and I was really looking forward to start watching some titles that are on that streaming platform. The nights are movie nights and I take advantage of the time before going to sleep to enjoy a movie. Well that is if I don't fall asleep because of the tiredness of the day. But yes, most of the time I manage to watch them complete. This time I wanted to start with watching some suspense movie. In fact, I started with "The Pope's Exorcist" A very good story but some special effects that seemed like toys but I will not talk about "The Pope's Exorcist" we will talk about how technology can be a dangerous tool.
La película de la que me referiré hoy es M3GAN. Una película de suspenso bastante tradicional dentro de las producciones de Terror. Digo tradicional porque sinceramente no me pareció una trama o una historia que no haya visto antes. Muchos clichés nos encontraremos en esta producción con guion de Akela Cooper y dirigida por Gerard Johnstone. No me parece que la película sea del todo mala, pero creo que pudieron darle un giro a esos momentos que ya son como ya he dicho, clichés. De hecho, no viene al caso pero nada que ver con la clásica película de Steven Spielberg ¨ Inteligencia Artificial¨ digo esto porque para crear una película como M3GAN debieron tener en cuenta que debería ser mejor que la ya mencionada de Steven. No soy un crítico pero es mi punto de vista como un público más.
The movie I will be talking about today is M3GAN. A fairly traditional thriller within the Horror productions. I say traditional because it honestly did not seem to me a plot or a story that I have not seen before. Many clichés we will find in this production scripted by Akela Cooper and directed by Gerard Johnstone. I don't think the movie is all bad, but I think they could have given a twist to those moments that are already as I said, clichés. In fact, it is not the case but nothing to do with the classic Steven Spielberg's movie ¨ Artificial Intelligence¨ I say this because to create a movie like M3GAN they should have taken into account that it should be better than the aforementioned Steven's movie. I am not a critic but this is my point of view as another audience.
Ciertamente esta película nos describe el lado tenebroso de la robótica y el efecto que puede tener la robótica en los seres humanos. Películas muy similares son Chopping Mall o Blinky donde tocan este mismo tema. El lado oscuro de la robótica. También encontraremos que toca mucho el tema de la maternidad lo cual vale la pena oír y entender. En fin, creo que no debieron convertirla en una película de terror cuando en realidad pudieron atacar otros aspectos fundamentales de la vida. Claro, ya los toca en algunos aspectos de la película pero en sí, la trama intenta ser un poco tenebrosa y es allí donde digo yo que fracasaron.
Certainly this movie depicts the dark side of robotics and the effect that robotics can have on human beings. Very similar movies are Chopping Mall or Blinky where they touch on this same theme. The dark side of robotics. We will also find that it touches a lot on the subject of motherhood which is worth hearing and understanding. Anyway, I think they shouldn't have turned it into a horror movie when in fact they could have attacked other fundamental aspects of life. Sure, it touches on them in some aspects of the movie but the plot itself tries to be a bit scary and that's where I say they failed.
Todo empieza en un accidente de tránsito donde los padres de Cady (Violet McGraw) fallecen y queda a cargo de su tía Gemma (Allison Williams) Una ingeniera que trabaja en una compañía de juguetes dedicada a la robótica. Su tía atada al trabajo no sabía mucho como atender el problema que estaba pasado su sobrina Cady y en medio de un experimento para un nuevo juguete, crea a M3GAN. Un androide que será la compañía perfecta para la niña. M3GAN estaba diseñada para proteger a toda costa a Cady, ser su amiga fiel, su apoyo en todo momento. Lo que no sabía Gemma era que su invento era tan perfecto que su evolución se iba incrementando muy rápido hasta el punto de tener un comportamiento más humano. En ese proceso M3GAN no logra detallar bien lo que está bien y lo que está mal convirtiéndose en una feroz pesadilla para todos.
It all starts in a traffic accident where Cady's (Violet McGraw) parents die and she is left in charge of her aunt Gemma (Allison Williams), an engineer who works in a toy company dedicated to robotics. Her aunt, tied to work, did not know how to deal with the problem that was happening to her niece Cady and in the middle of an experiment for a new toy, she creates M3GAN. An android that will be the perfect companion for the little girl. M3GAN was designed to protect Cady at all costs, to be her faithful friend, her support at all times. What Gemma did not know was that her invention was so perfect that its evolution was increasing very fast to the point of having a more human behavior. In that process M3GAN fails to detail well what is right and what is wrong becoming a fierce nightmare for everyone.
Como he mencionado en anteriores reseñas de películas, no pienso hacer un espóiler de lo que es esta producción. Los invito a verla y que ustedes mismo tengan su opinión. La mía, no la volvería a ver.
As I have mentioned in previous movie reviews, I do not intend to make a spoiler of what this production is. I invite you to see it and have your own opinion. Mine, I would not watch it again.
