Pasar unos días sin compartir nada en estas aguas que me han acompañado por tantos años es para mí motivo de tristeza pero nada mejor para eliminar ese sentimiento que volver a compartir mis locuras, mis opiniones, mis anécdotas. Les cuento desde el principio, la semana pasada fue bastante fuerte en el trabajo tanto que ayer domingo seguía en la faena como diría mi jefe. Esa es una de las principales razones por mi corta ausencia, una semana para mí es una eternidad en la blockchain. Llegar agotado a casa de noche sin ánimos de sentarme en la pc me destrozaba y siempre antes de dormir atormentaba a mi esposa con mi cansancio.

Spending a few days without sharing anything in these waters that have been with me for so many years is a source of sadness for me, but there’s nothing better to shake off that feeling than to start sharing my crazy ideas, my opinions, and my stories again. Let me start from the beginning: last week was pretty intense at work so much so that yesterday, Sunday, I was still “on the job,” as my boss would say. That’s one of the main reasons for my brief absence; a week is an eternity for me in the blockchain world. Coming home exhausted at night with no energy to sit down at the computer was killing me, and I’d always end up venting my fatigue on my wife before going to sleep.

En uno de esos días mientras estaba en la zona de meditación de la casa, vi la noticia de esta serie la cual tenía una buena trama sobre todo, hoy en día con lo evolucionado que se ha vuelto las redes sociales así que la busqué y la guardé para tenerla a la vista. Es una serie que empezamos a ver y solo tenían 3 capítulos lo que nos dio a entender que irían soltando capítulos una vez por semana. Exactamente cada miércoles. La serie cuenta con 8 capitules de 30 a 35 minutos con una apertura bastante significativa y visualmente agradable. Bastante inteligente diría yo.

One day, while I was in the meditation area of the house, I saw a news item about this series, which had a particularly good plot—especially given how advanced social media has become these days so I looked it up and saved it to keep an eye on it. We started watching the series, and there were only three episodes available at the time, which led us to believe they would be releasing new episodes once a week every Wednesday, to be exact. The series has 8 episodes, each 30 to 35 minutes long, with a pretty meaningful and visually appealing opening. Pretty clever, I’d say.

Hoy quiero compartir con ustedes mi impresión sobre una de las series de las que más se está hablando en este momento "Margo's Got Money Troubles" (Margo tiene problemas de dinero) la cual es original de Apple TV pero yo la vi en Xupertv ja ja ja. Por un lado debo admitir que desde el punto de vista puramente narrativo y de entretenimiento, la serie es sumamente interesante y te mantiene enganchado hasta el final. Sin embargo, el mensaje de fondo y la premisa central me generaron un rechazo profundo. Entiendo que cada quien busca la manera de ganar dinero pero creo que como todo en la vida, cada decisión trae consecuencia. Aun así no soy quien para juzgar la decisión de cada quien.

Today I want to share with you my thoughts on one of the most talked-about series right now, “Margo's Got Money Troubles,” which is an Apple TV original, but I watched it on Xupertv, ha ha ha. On the one hand, I have to admit that from a purely narrative and entertainment standpoint, the series is extremely interesting and keeps you hooked until the very end. However, the underlying message and central premise really turned me off. I understand that everyone is looking for a way to make money, but I think that, like everything in life, every decision has consequences. Even so, it’s not my place to judge anyone’s decisions.

Te explico el porqué de mi perspectiva o el cierre de la anterior estrofa. No cabe duda que la trama es sumamente adictiva y a la verdad es que el elenco estuvo bastante sólido lo cual logra que Margo sea una serie de entretenimiento bastante aceptable pero para ponerlos en contexto sin llegar a un spoiler total, la serie sigue a Margo, una madre soltera que asfixiada por las deudas y la falta de oportunidades decide abrirse una cuenta en OnlyFans para subsistir.

Let me explain the reasoning behind my perspective or the conclusion of the previous verse. There’s no doubt that the plot is extremely addictive, and the truth is that the cast was quite solid, which makes Margo a pretty decent entertainment series. But to put it in context without giving away too much, the series follows Margo, a single mother who, suffocated by debt and a lack of opportunities, decides to open an OnlyFans account to make ends meet.

Visualmente la serie está muy bien hecha con un buen ritmo y las actuaciones son destacables. La dinámica familiar con una madre desastrosa y un padre exluchador que aportan momentos de comedia negra que funcionan. El guion sabe cómo mantener la tensión y el interés capítulo a capítulo, logrando un cierre de temporada que cumple su función de atrapar al espectador pero ese cierre es lo que me decepciona de la serie, la normalización de un riesgo para la mujer ¿a qué costo social? Mi motivo principal y por la que la cuestiono fuertemente es la forma en que aborda la plataforma OnlyFans. La narrativa de la serie la presenta de manera muy ligera, casi como una "herramienta de trabajo aceptable", una simple alternativa moderna y estratégica para que una madre soltera salga adelante. Pero repito mi pregunta ¿a qué costo social?

Visually, the series is very well-made, with a good pace, and the performances are outstanding. The family dynamics featuring a chaotic mother and a former wrestler father provide moments of dark comedy that really work. The script knows how to maintain tension and interest episode after episode, achieving a season finale that successfully hooks the viewer but that finale is what disappoints me about the series: the normalization of a risk for women at what social cost? My main reason for questioning it so strongly is the way it approaches the OnlyFans platform. The series’ narrative presents it in a very lighthearted way, almost as an “acceptable work tool,” a simple, modern, and strategic alternative for a single mother to get by. But I repeat my question: at what social cost?

Desde mi criterio, esto es sumamente peligroso. Al romantizar o normalizar este tipo de actividades bajo la bandera de la "supervivencia" o el "emprendimiento digital", sin pensar en los riesgos reales y directos que corren las mujeres en estas plataformas me hace distorsión en el cerebro. Aun así como dije al principio, cada quien es dueño de sus decisiones pero recordemos que cada una de esas decisiones tiene consecuencias buenas o malas y esa parte exactamente no la dan a entender por completo. No le dan ese contraste importante para la sociedad generalmente. No digo que la serie sea mala, pero su mensaje final no fue acorde con lo que personalmente esperaba.

In my opinion, this is extremely dangerous. Romanticizing or normalizing these kinds of activities under the banner of “survival” or “digital entrepreneurship,” without considering the real and direct risks women face on these platforms, really messes with my head. Even so, as I said at the beginning, everyone is free to make their own decisions, but let’s remember that each of those decisions has consequences good or bad and that’s exactly the part they don’t fully convey. They don’t provide that important contrast for society in general. I’m not saying the series is bad, but its final message didn’t align with what I personally expected.
