I popped down to my local lido as I'd heard there were some coot chicks down there. Unfortunately, I didn't spot any chicks, but I did see an aggressive coot shooing every bird off the water. Whether the coot mother was hiding with her chicks and the father was keeping other birds away, I don't know. One of the birds that came flying out of the water was “Limpy”, our resident disabled duck. He has a bad leg, but he's very independent and lives quite happily, flying from pond to pond.
I think he took the opportunity to have a preen and sunbathe in the morning sun. I suspect it's easier to preen lying down when you only have one good leg.
I also took the opportunity to sit on the wooden bench and have a bit of a photoshoot with him!
The moorhen was also getting some sun on the angler's platform.
As I walked away, I spotted a robin singing its heart out on a branch. I quite often see it here.
By the time I'd left, nearly all the birdlife had been chased off the water and was now sleeping in the shade of the tree.
