Hi, my name is Emani. I'm sharing a song I wrote about Jamaica's capital city, while living there.
Growing up I was fascinated with the country and it's music, it was my dream to one day visit this dream became a possibility after I won a scholarship to study and do humanitarian work in Kingston.
Not too long before I embarked on this Journey I picked up music and began trying my hand at singing Reggae, as a side project I aimed to get my feet wet in this field as well...not knowing that this project would soon take center stage.
Kingston Jamaica is one of the most notorious cities on earth, in fact many of Jamaica's inhabitants outside of the city refuse to go there out of fear of its violent reputation. Upon arriving I was terrified, but I soon discovered a beautiful place full of amazing people, one day walking home on the bus I was overwhelmed with gratitude for the city when I chorus line popped in my head translated "you know I have to make a one 180, about how I feel about kingston city"
I began writing a song about how incredible the city and its inhabitants are, a veteran musician in the reggae industry heard my chorus and encouraged me saying this song could be a hit and inspire many downtrodden people in the city....he pushed me start a singing career and release the song.
I worked hard training my voice for the next few years and released the song, my mentor was correct the city loved the song, the top radio DJ in the country played the song as a form of political protest hoping to build the self esteem of the nation.
Please take a listen and Enjoy
