Hive is many things and there are hundreds of ways to explain it to someone interested in joining. This reminds me of how I was invited, it was quite simple. I'm a lover of poems, I write it occasionally on other platforms but I wasn't getting the feedback I wanted, it was just kind of dry.
So I was told, there is a platform that you can publish your poems and get the quality feedback you desire. Not just that, you will also earn in the process and I was like; hold up!!! you mean I won't have to paste links on my social media handles to attract readers, there are people ready to read, comment and I would also earn in the process? I'm in. It was as simple as that.
When I look back, I realize it is one of the best ways to invite people to hive but definitely not the best way to ensure they stay. That is the ironic part, it is never about inviting people to hive, there are thousands of inactive accounts on hive. People who got invited with the juicy part of hive and the moment they get themselves caught in the consistency and engagement struggle, they bail.
One of the things I have discovered about newbies is that, they all want something. I discovered this after numerous attempt of inviting people to hive and failing to make them stay. I realized that, instead of trying to spill the juicy part of hive to get their attention, why not try to understand what these people want.

So, if I were to convince someone to start their journey on hive? I will first try to observe and understand their current situation, understand their area of interest. For someone struggling with their finance, in need of a place to make some coins, the way I will convince such a person will be different from the way I will convince a person, whose interest is quality content creation and getting quality feedback.
Or Someone that wants to genuinely learn about hive as a Blockchain, not just engaging in a social platform. It is each individual interest that would help me to come up with what to say. I mean when you start explaining Blockchain technology to someone with no knowledge of cryptocurrency or web3, it won't make any sense to them, they would get overwhelmed and panic.
Though, the job does not end there. After pitching the idea, educating them about how hive function is also important, just to make sure they don't make mistakes and also provide support. Hive is a tough place for lone wolves, newbies get overwhelmed and exhausted without good support but then, that is a discussion for another day.
