Once again ... The Full Moon
We had a Full Moon form over the week-end -- the Full Moon in Gemini opposing the Sun in Sagittarius. In the evening sky, people watched the only "Supermoon" of 2017 rise ... big and beautiful and definitely full of itself!!
Through folklore and legend, people know The Full Moon means something special. It brings a noticeably different sort of energy to the world, but sometimes it's hard to sort through all the clutter and figure out exactly what's going on when the unique agenda of the Full Moon arrives.
The Full Moon's Meaning
The Full Moon represents tension, conflict, confrontation ... and disagreement. The Full Moon's energy is notorious for triggering emotional reactions, extreme responses to stress and other craziness among those trying to deal with problems and difficult situations ... some of which may have a lot of history to add to the pressure.
The Full Moon results from an opposition between The Sun and The Moon. You can see this clearly in the sky on Full Moon nights. As the Sun sets in the west, the Full Moon rises in the east. And at dawn, the positions are reversed. The Sun rises in the east as the Moon sets in the west. In these positions, the Moon is able to reflect all of the Sun's light on its surface -- creating the round and regal splendor we all know as The Full Moon.
Celestial Stand-off
This is what the latest Full Moon looked like to an astrologer. You can clearly see these two celestial bodies directly across the chart from one another -- which illustrates the concept of "opposition" better than I can write it in words.
But of course in Astrology, there is "meaning" behind the symbolism -- and the term opposition describes exactly what is happening. An opposition is what it sounds like -- two parts of your character, two competing priorities in life ... or you and somebody else ... are causing problems for one another.
Looking for a compromise
Each Full Moon brings a pair of competing concerns to your attention ... and consciously or unconsciously you will work to resolve them into a working partnership for several weeks after a Full Moon arrives. This happens over and over and over again through all the years of your life.
Sometimes the Full Moon positions will cause trouble with other placements in your character (and, of course, in your Natal Chart) so that these are chronic problems you stumble across over and over again.
Reconciling Differences
Sometimes the Full Moon positions will actually help your personal and spiritual growth, bringing you moments of recognition and adjustment as you recognize the contradictions in your character -- or the differences between you and others ... and bring them into some kind of acceptance. Either you reconcile the conflict ... or you agree to live with the differences. However it works, you find peace with the problem -- and life goes on.
There are six opposite pairs in the twelve signs of the Zodiac. Each set represents difference in values, attitudes, opinions and behavior, and as the Full Moon cycles make their way around the Zodiac, you will work with each pair twice a year. With each one, you are asked to balance different needs and priorities to find the adjustments (and compromises!) that work for you. When the Full Moon forms, you may find your investments in certain life areas have become lopsided and you need to align them more equitably again.
The First Three pairs
The Aries / Libra combinations highlight concerns about personal independence vs. support for your partners and nourishment for your relationships.
The Taurus / Scorpio combinations focus on questions of property and investment -- what's mine, what's yours and what's ours?
The Gemini / Sagittarius combinations bring up matters of thought, opinion, beliefs and convictions -- what have you learned about the world from personal experience vs. what society says is right, true and proper.
The Last Three Pairs
The Cancer / Capricorn combinations resurrect the age old dilemma of conflict between family and career or profession -- what do I owe my family and what do I want in my private life vs what do I owe my professional responsibilities and what kind of public status do I want to build?
The Leo / Aquarius combinations ask you to consider what you want to build with your talents and the kind of recognition you want for your creative efforts vs the things you're willing to invest in large group projects and the things you are willing to donate without much credit to build a better future for "humanity."
The Virgo / Pisces combinations are concerned with the efficiency and quality of your work vs. the amount of downtime and recuperation you need, the state of your physical health vs. the state of your mental and emotional health.
Thank you for stopping by!
If you've always known there was more to Astrology than Sun Sign material and the three line daily horoscope in the newspaper, climb aboard and follow this blog. You'll find a world of wisdom detailing how you were designed to work with life ... and why you are the way you are -- all in quick-to-read, easy-to-digest-and-remember, written-in-plain-English essays that offer plenty of food for thought.
Little by little, I'm doing a set of articles that talks about all the elements in your horoscope and what they have to say about you. If you "know something" about Astrology -- or know something about your chart placements, that will help you get more from this material.
If you don't ... well, this is one place you can learn. We all have to start somewhere ... because we aren't born knowing this stuff. Meanwhile, if you've never seen your horoscope ... and don't have a clue how to work with it, maybe it's time to find out. There are lots of "chart services" on the internet -- some of whom produce decent, readable charts "for free" and some are so awful and confusing that even I can't read them easily -- and I've worked with charts for decades.
One extremely user-friendly chart site is here: AstroLabe I recommend them if you want a simple, easy-to-read chart. I think they even give a reasonable little interpretive reading of your horoscope as part of the package. You'll need to know your birth information -- day, month, year, time and geographical place. Without all that your chart will have limited accuracy.
Or, if you want to get serious and really talk about this, upvote this post and start a conversation in the comments section sometime in the next six days from the time of publication. We'll go from there depending on what you want to know.
Questions about any of this? -- Upvote this post and talk to me in comments. It's a terrific way to build value for yourself and the community ... and it will give me ideas of what to write about in future posts. Believe me there is lots to say about the way The Sun, The Moon -- and all the other elements in a horoscope, all the other components of Astrology -- work together to interpret you and your story -- and what it all means to the person you've become.
