The second Full Moon in Libra arrived yesterday, bringing us a second bite of the apple in the constant effort to find the right balance between singularity and connection. So, maybe it would be interesting to look at the different expression of the Libra Moon in general -- and asses where we are now in the experience of it.
The explicit notes on the Full Moon in Libra are down in the last couple of sections in this essay. But don't just skip over the ones that come before. They add perspective and context to the inner work we're taking on now.
When the Moon in is Libra
In Astrology, The Moon represents our inner feelings, our emotions ... and our deep security needs. It is colored by the Sign it is traveling through at the time -- and its work is focused on the interests of the house in your horoscope where it is located in its travels through the circle of the Zodiac signs.
Libra is the sign of partnerships, relationships and our connection to others. Libra is the sign of the diplomat and negotiator. If you have a Natal Moon in Libra (that is, if the Moon was Libra when you were born), these are skills that come naturally to you -- and others certainly recognize and count on this in their relationships with you.
It happens every month
When the Moon in the sky is passing through Libra ... which it does for about 2 1/2 days every month -- month after month, being the peace-maker -- or more likely the peace-keeper is on your agenda. You'll go out of your way to accommodate people -- especially the important people in your immediate circle ... like partners, significant others, good friends, business partners and associates -- anyone you consider more or less "another part of you."
You'll also go out of your way to smooth relationships with total strangers, to keep everyone happy -- and do everything possible to keep the social atmosphere friendly and "nice." Harmony is a priority when the Moon is in Libra. Fortunately since everyone will be feeling this energy and its impulses right along with you ... it's easier to achieve that than at other times -- usually.
Yes, there's always the possibility of some crummy aspect messing up everyone's good intentions -- like a problem with Mars (aggression) or Uranus (defiance and surprises) ... or God forbid, Pluto (power plays and upheavals.) But those will pass quickly -- and life can get back to normal. So until Life itself proves otherwise, assume the best when the Moon travels through Libra. You'll get it more often than not.
This is what last year's New Moon in Libra
looked like to an Astrologer.
When The New Moon is in Libra
The New Moon in Libra can only form when the Sun is in Libra -- from about September 21 to October 21 every year. The day this happens will change from one year to another -- so you'll need a calendar ... preferably an astrological calendar ... to keep track of this. By definition, the New Moon forms in the sky when the Sun and the Moon align in the same degree and minute of arc in the Zodiac.
The New Moon in Libra heightens your interest in alliances, associates, partnerships, significant relationships ... and marriage. It marks the time of year when you are most interested in being connected with someone special, someone you love, someone you likely want to build a long-term association with. (Except for the "love" part, this can also indicate a strong interest in intimate friendships and business connections. ) All this is on the table when the New Moon forms in Libra. You want a sense of unity far more than you want to go it alone.
The theme is alliance
How you actually accomplish this may be interesting and "original," but evidence that it's not just you against the world is something you want to count on. The influence of the New Moon's energy lasts considerably longer than that of the transiting Moon. You'll work with these interests anywhere from a couple of weeks to a month, depending on what's happening in your life and how much adjustment you want (or need) to make.
Themes that center on tranquility, cooperation and balance will be prominent. The aesthetics of your life -- and beauty in general -- will have more of your attention. You'll possibly rearrange not just your relationships but your physical accommodations ... at home, at work, etc. Even your personal appearance may be due for an overhaul. Remember, Libra wants everything to be "nice" -- and powered by the New Moon's fortified energy you'll expand the number of things you're willing to tackle to create this.
So remember this when Libra rolls around in September / October -- and especially when the New Moon in Libra lines up to drop its special moondust all over your life. Again, it's not just your life that's in the spotlight. Everyone else will get the same treatment.
This is what Friday's Full Moon in Libra
looked like to an Astrologer.
When The Full Moon is in Libra
The Full Moon in Libra forms when the Sun is in Aries. Aries and Libra are polar opposites in Astrology. They are diametrically opposed to one another in the horoscope -- and their attitudes and interests (and treatment of one another) reflect this celestial antagonism. The Sun travels through Aries from about March 20 until April 20 -- and during its transit of Libra during that time, the Moon will -- at some point -- oppose the Sun at exactly the same degree and minute of arc. This forms the celestial spectacle of the Full Moon ... round, luminous and impressive.
The Full Moon's agenda in any sign points out the need to rebalance certain elements of your life -- by highlighting two opposing sets of concerns ... and how you may have given too much favor to one side or the other. Since Libra is about balance -- and the Full Moon is also about balance -- this redoubles that issue as a concern when the Full Moon in Libra arrives. (Under the Full Moon in Libra, you pretty much can't ignore this one!!)
The theme is balance
Things don't run quite as smoothly under the Full Moon in Libra as they did when you were dealing with the focus of New Moon matters. Libra is still about cooperation, compromise and working in concert. It still wants a connection to people and partners. Part of you feels pulled to champion this persuasion. But the Aries Sun is independent, self-reliant, assertive ... and diplomacy is not exactly its strong suit.
When pushed and prodded by the Libra Moon to "be nice," and "play fair," and "get along, ok?" It often reacts by becoming pushy, bossy, impatient, temperamental and anything but pleasant. Part of you is trying to find the proper place on the fulcrum to balance your needs, your partners needs and everyone else's wishes and expectations.
Feeling pulled in anywhere from two to five different directions at once is enough to make anyone crabby -- so don't be surprised if all this Libra "niceness" dissolves into a full-blown temper tantrum just so you can get some space ... dammit. Try not to say or do something you'll regret, because when this moon-madness passes ... you'll want to pick up the pieces and carry on -- somehow, assuming you haven't alienated everyone you care about in the meantime.
