The chill of the wind blew across the barren outdoors in the early morning day. A large snow had fallen the night before. Bob stood at the metro bus shelter deep in thought as he was preparing to go in early to work at the office. A gentle rain pressed down upon the roof melting droplets of snow. His mind was taken in the trance of small wet dissolving and disappearing from view on the hardened cold cement.
Several minutes passed. The droplet of wet seems different. Odd. No it's not the rain he hears. It is tears...a sob. Turning he sees a young woman sitting with a cellphone pressed up against her cheek.
"They've taken away my children and I don't know what to do." "Yes it's the damn CPS." "They came yesterday unannounced and escorted Zack and Everly. I don't know where they are. This lady said she would be in touch."
Bob could see the pain of her heart as wet droplets of pain traveled from her eyes to her cheeks to the ground. He had heard of the absolute hell that parents go through before from talk at the firm where he worked. How children are taken, innocence is trampled like mud on a fresh virgin snow...and dreams forsaken. Sad. Christmas was a week away and this poor lady may not be with her young children. Why must such evil as the CPS be allowed to destroy this world, he thought. Why are folks so apathetic?
And yet the wetness of her face...the helplessness and pain inside those eyes...the tear....yes the tear.
Looking at his watch he realized some things are more important than work.
"Lady I would like to help you." "I have some time to spare. I am aware of how the CPS puts families though needless pain and can offer you free counsel. Which bus are you taking?"
As two metro buses pulled up, the woman expressed her thanks and a faint smile emerged as she pointed to the No 7. Bob realized then he would not be boarding the 9 as he normally did each day. He knew he was doing the right thing as the sun moved to an opening in the sky and the rain let up.
Everyday there are parents and children separated by the hand of the CPS. Tears are shed, homes are broken and lives are severed and shattered. Only if you have lived through this personally can you imagine the horror these families endure. They need your help to cope with the emotional, financial, spiritual and legal hurdles that they are forced to jump through. Will you be a friend to those who feel hurting, helpless and hopeless?
Which bus would you take?
In this brief story Bob decided the welfare of this woman and her children was more important than his agenda. He sacrificed his time and work at the firm to do what was right. He also provided her with what appears to be legal and emotional help. Bob did what he felt was right.
We are called to do the same. We may not work for fancy firm or have prestige, but we do have the capability of love and touching the lives of the hurting. Selflessness and giving go along way when someone is down and out. And yet how many times do we think of ourselves.
When we think only of our selfish interests, we are no better than that heartless CPS social worker who is addicted to cash. We can do better!
Which bus will you take?
We are all given a choice. There are two option...two buses we can take. One allows us to take no action an stay in our own comfortable world. It is the choice of apathy or even selfishness for some. The other bus leads us to sacrifice and action, caring selflessness, giving and love. It is personal and human and produces a positive energy that reproduces more positive energy.
There are parents and children who need our help to protect them from the dangers of the CPS foster care system. Look around your community. You will find them. Also consider joining
