Crystal Griner was injured while helping to stop a mass shooting.
Crystal Griner, the Capitol Police special agent who helped stop a mass shooting last month at a congressional baseball practice, got a little more than she bargained for at the White House this week.
President Trump awarded the lesbian officer and four other first responders with Medals of Valor, the highest honor that public safety officers can receive. Griner, who was shot in the ankle, and agent David Bailey have been widely credited for preventing the attack from turning into a massacre.
However, Scott Dworkin, co-founder of the Democratic coalition, feels that it was inappropriate for Trump to kiss Griner on the cheek after fastening the medal around her neck. Dworkin, who tweeted video of the ceremony, commented that there would be outrage from the GOP if Obama had kissed a Medal of Valor recipient. “Griner’s discomfort is palpable, and she even appears to try and pull away from the president at one point,” Bipartisan Report writes. “However, she wasn’t able to put enough distance between herself and Trump and had to endure him forcing himself on her.” Trump and the first lady visited Griner and the other injured officers at the hospital last month to thank them for their heroism.
