The other day I came across a video by Joshua Barbour on his YouTube channel named "Dad Challenge Podcast" about family vlogging. Mr. Barbour is one of those conservative religious men who disbelieve in family vlogging and condemns it as being exploitative of minors. I don't agree with much of what he states in his videos, but, at the same time, I cannot deny that he has posted some interesting stuff on his channel.
I do agree with Mr. Barbour that parents should not put their autistic kids on camera and exhibit them having meltdowns. Of course, that's neither here nor there.
There was this one video that Mr. Barbour posted in which he claimed that Family Fizz had exploited the oldest daughter named Mia. Then he blindly brought up the topic of pedophilia, but, like so many times before, he couldn't seem to get its definition right. Here is his video below.
Joshua Barbour Criticizes Family Fizz For Trapping Their Kids Into A Life Of YouTube Videos
Mr. Barbour gets much of his information wrong in other videos whenever he brings up the subject of American politics and how our court system and criminal justice system both work. Then again, he lives in Canada, so I don't expect him to know everything about how the American government system works.
Nonetheless, I have major problems with some of the statements Mr. Barbour makes in his video above about Family Fizz's two oldest daughters, Mia and Sienna. He claims that they're nearly illiterate. That could not be true, because Mia speaks fluent Spanish.
If Mia was able to learn how to speak Spanish as well as she does, she must know something about how grammar and structure work in any language that she speaks. I've even always felt that she was likely more intelligent than most women her age. I've seen videos of her speaking in Spanish.
Mia is 21 years old. Therefore, if she wants to have a baby, let her have a baby. The baby's father is stepping up to the plate, so that's a good thing.
I don't know very much about Sienna. I never get the impression that she is illiterate whenever I have heard her speak. If she has published books as she has, then she has to know something substantial about the English language. She seems as though she has a good head on her shoulders for a 14-year-old girl.
Finally, Mr. Barbour was way out of line when he attempted to take writer's license with the definition of pedophilia. He brought up the subject of how Mia did videos about her menstrual cycle when she was barely in her adolescent years and that Sienna had done videos of that nature as well. As long as they're not violating any of the community guidelines of YouTube, let them post whatever they want.
Anyhow, Mr. Barbour insisted that pedophiles absolutely loved watching videos about adolescent girls having their menstrual period. Wrong, Mr. Barbour! Pedophiles aren't even sexually attracted to girls that age. That's why they are called pedophiles.
Pedophiles don't watch videos about pubescent and adolescent girls having their menstrual period or going bra shopping. They watch videos of toddlers bathing in the nude. Pedophiles aren't looking to get middle-school and high-school girls pregnant, because they're not interested in them. Therefore, menstruation at 12 or 13 years old has nothing more to do with pedophilia than teenage pregnancy does.
I'm not claiming that adult men should get into the habit of watching videos of pubescent and adolescent girls talking about their periods. There would be no point to it, unless, of course, a man is a single parent dealing with his daughter having her menarche. However, a clinically diagnosed pedophile is not going to get his dopamine hits out of watching videos of pubescent and adolescent girls describing their periods, because to an actual pedophile, a girl Sienna's age looks like an old lady and, therefore, it would turn him off.
The point here is that if Mr. Barbour is going to talk about pedophilia in his videos, he should at least look up the definition of it in the Fifth Edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders ("DSM-5"). I can understand why he questions anything unconventional that he sees as not being age-appropriate, even though as a conservative minister he's going to have a much more puritanical perspective of teenage sexuality than most people will.
Nonetheless, Mr. Barbour should at least attempt to make the information he delivers in his videos to be as accurate as possible. Otherwise, he is spewing pedophile-panic propaganda that misleads the public on a serious subject matter.
Mr. Barbour doesn't have to like family vlogging. I realize that there has been a stirrup of controversy over family vlogging on YouTube ever since the tragic incident involving Ruby Franke and Jodi Hildebrandt out in Utah. However, if he is going to snipe at family vloggers, he should at least attempt to steer clear of the misuse of such terminology.
According to the DSM-5, pedophilia is the sexual attraction of adolescents and adults 16 years of age and older to prepubescent children (usually younger than 11 years old) that are five or more years their junior. It has nothing to do with teenage girls or their feminine issues. It has nothing to do with the girls in the video below.
Teenage Girls Model Summer Fashion Attire For Other Girls Their Age
If there are any men Mr. Barbour's age watching the video above, chances are that they're probably saying to themselves, "Where were girls like that when I was fifteen?" They're not necessarily planning to go full Joey Buttafuoco on their wives or middle-aged girlfriends. (Does anyone even remember him?) They're not going to kidnap, rape, and murder a toddler either. Also, teenagers are not toddlers and should not be confused with them.
I wasn't trying to put Mr. Barbour down, because everyone is entitled to their own opinion despite that it might not be based on the most accurate information. If he wants to do a video about me and attack me from all directions, he's perfectly welcome to do so. However, I cannot promise him that my response back at him will be a pleasant experience for him if he is sensitive about what people say about him.
I just thought that I would put my thoughts about Joshua Barbour's above-described video out there. That's all.
