It's coming. On July 29th Chris Cyborg takes on Rising star Megan Anderson for the Women's Featherweight title.
Cyborg has been a beast in the division and has MOWED DOWN EVERY person she has fought...in BRUTAL fashion. She sports a 17-1 record with 15 KO's. Including 11 KO's in a row. Her last decision victory came in 2009. Unlike most fighters whos finishing abilities deteriorate over time. Cyborg seems to be getting better.
However she has a new challenge ahead. The beautiful Aussie destroyer Megan Anderson. At only 27 years of age she sports an 8-2 record with 6 finishes including knocking out her last 4 opponents. She is the current Invicta featherweight champion but puts that on the shelf to go for UFC gold against the greatest female fighter of all time.
The fight was not going to originally happen. All though game and wanting the fight and the rest of the women's featherweights cowering from fighting Cyborg the UFC was not going to make it happen. My guess and it's only a guess is that they wanted to build her up. Let the world get to know this beauty what can fight. Perhaps another Ronda Rousey meal ticket?
This will be an interesting match-up and one that provides a challenge Cyborg has never faced. Anderson stand 6 feet tall to Cyborgs 5'8. And Anderson has a 7 inch reach advantage. If she can stay on the outside and away from Cyborg's brute physical strength and pressure she can win this fight. But that is the big question. Can she weather the early onslaught and take Cyborg into deep waters in the 4th and 5th rounds.
My prediction...I think Cyborg is too much for her or anyone now. She is just a monster in the cage and I think the UFC did a horrible job in promoting her. Forcing unsafe weight cuts, not building the women's featherweight division, and being downright rude to her. Remember Dana White calling Wanderlei Silva in a dress? What president of any organization talks like that about one of their athletes. I think they could have built her up to have the Mike Tyson mystique where fans did not care who he was fighting. The just wanted to see viciousness and super knockouts.
It will be a good fight. It is at the Honda Center in Anaheim July 29th! Will there be a new champion? Or will this end in another jaw jarring knockout for Cyborg. What do you think?
